Influence of creep feeding during the suckling period on daily gain of piglets after weaning depending on body condition and feeding techniques
E. Meyer
Seven experiments with 994 piglets were conducted to examine the influence of creep feeding during a suckling period of 28 days on daily gain after weaning by different feeding techniques (dry or liquid feeding). Daily gain of piglets with creep feeding was 10 g lower than the daily gain of piglets without creep feeding, but after weaning performance of the creep fed piglets was better. There was no influence of creep feeding on piglet losses during suckling and rearing period. After weaning especially heavy piglets (> 8,5 kg) could follow the feed intake stimulation by liquid feeding technique better if they got creep feed during suckling period. To realize a sufficient creep feed intake its nutritive and hygienic quality must be very high even if the milk performance of sows is very good like nowadays.
