Diluents of boar sperm – state of technology

Improved knowledge on physiology of porcine sperm cells forwarded the development of new diluents for boar semen. Actually it is possible to store semen for more than 7 days without losses in fertility. However, the aim in swine production is not to extend the durability of semen doses. A more important role of using boar semen few days after recovery have economic reasons (expense of diluent). The diluent has to be at a low price. Today, respective products are available for every requirement. However comparing competitive products, companies producing boar semen have focus priority on customer demands and must select corresponding diluents. Provider of new diluents have to certify that their new products were tested as the
prominent ones and are more advantageous. Unfortunately, commercial interests are sometimes contrary.
