Perspectives of cattle breeding from practical point of view

Prerequisite for a successful long-term milk production in Germany is to work with profit. On account of very low producers’ prices, the cost reduction of production plays a decisive role. The life productivity per cow is of outstanding importance. Science, breeding and estimation of breeding value have to concentrate even more on this aspect and find new approaches (productivity per day of life). Aim of breeding, overall index (RZG) and exterior breeding value have to be focused increasingly on economics. The selection and examination of bull mothers and the testing of progeny have to be adopted to future structures and their requirements. The breeding farm shall stipulate an inner-company breeding objective for its future conditions and demands using only bulls that meet the requirements of this objective. The suitable bulls are available in the “German Holstein” race.
