Relations between milk performance, energy balance and fertility under the conditions of high performance in cattle
The increase of the milk performance per cow and lactation reached in the last decade is connected to reinforcement of the negative energy balance in dependence on the individual performance and the energy intake. In connection with this, reductions of reproductive performances in cows are seen within the phase of the highest milk yield. Starting out from the biological bases of reproduction functions the paper wants to demonstrate relationships between milk performance, energy balance and reproduction functions. The relations are shown on a phenotypic and genetic level. Furthermore, attempts of breeding strategies to influence fertility features are shown.
